Cox Communications is beefing up its managed services capabilities in AWS and Azure cloud environments with the acquisition of Logicworks.

Logicworks is a provider of professional services and managed services in the public cloud. The company is a gold certified Microsoft Azure partner and an expert AWS consulting and managed services provider.

“With Logicworks in our commercial services portfolio, we can help customers better migrate and manage systems in the cloud while they focus on business priorities,” said Mark Greatrex, president, Cox Communications. “This acquisition is part of our larger plan to offer a comprehensive suite of innovative IT solutions.”

The deal marks another cloud-focused acquisition for the cable MSO, which bought Rapidscale about five years ago. Cox said it intends to “holistically” meet its customers' needs in IT, telecom and connectivity.

Cox Business’ John Muscarella

“Cloud is impacting every corner of the business world, including organizations of all sizes, needs and industries; Logicworks and RapidScale provide a powerful toolbox for our channel partners to use when designing solutions in this market,” said John Muscarella, vice president of channel sales at Cox Business.

The companies did not disclose the cost of the transaction. King & Spalding LLP represented Cox during the proceedings, and Jefferies LLC and Cooley LLP represented Logicworks.

The New York City-based MSP exceeded $100 million in revenue about two years ago.

Logicworks already has a presence in the tech services distributor (TSD) channel. For example, Avant lists the MSP as one of its suppliers. Cox also partners with Avant.

On paper, the acquisition of a public cloud-focused MSP pairs well with Cox’s 2018 acquisition of RapidScale, RapidScale provides managed services for hybrid cloud environments.

Cox said that combining the businesses will “strengthen its offering to provide cutting edge cloud solutions to U.S.-based companies around the globe.”

“Cox and Logicworks share the same vision surrounding the underserved public cloud managed services space. This partnership creates a fantastic opportunity for us to step in and become a market leader. It enables us to continue to capitalize on the increasing demand in the market as well as broaden our opportunities for growth,” said Ken Ziegler, CEO of Logicworks.

Cox Communications in 2021 acquired Segra’s commercial services and carrier business. Buying Segra helped fill network gaps on the East Coast, including South Carolina, for Cox.
