Cisco Systems (CSCO) yesterday announced Dimension Data (DDT) and Sungard Availability Services have joined Telstra as Intercloud partners.

Cisco’s Intercloud is built on the company’s Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) and Intercloud Fabric technologies and features local hosting options.

Intercloud partners are cloud services providers (CSPs) that align their public cloud infrastructures to the Cisco Cloud architecture and can deliver the company’s cloud services to customers and resellers.

Cisco will use Dimension Data’s Managed Cloud Platform and software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions to offer a suite of midmarket cloud services, the company said.

Brett Dawson, Dimension Data’s CEO, commented on the partnership in a prepared statement:

“Dimension Data is proud to be the first global Intercloud partner. We have been providing cloud services for many years and have developed a robust global cloud service – available across all continents. We are extremely excited to support Cisco and its partners in accelerating the market’s move to cloud services.”

Cisco will provide two cloud services from Sungard AS – infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and disaster recovery-as-a-service (DRaaS).

“Companies of all sizes need secure, flexible hybrid cloud solutions to respond to evolving market demands. Our deployment of Cisco’s Application Centric Infrastructure coupled with our Sungard AS Enterprise Cloud Service will enable our customers to accelerate the deployment and management of applications in hybrid cloud environments,” Sungard AS CEO Andrew Stern said.

The addition of Dimension Data and Sungard AS as Intercloud partners, Cisco said, moves it another step closer to creating the largest globally distributed cloud platform.
