CloudPhysics is demonstrating its SaaS-based Cost Calculator for Private Cloud with a public cloud comparison tool. The system can predict whether a customer’s on-premises network is sized to handle new services, like VDI or UC; spot opportunities to move workloads to the public cloud by doing a cost comparison based on actual usage versus the same VMs running in a public cloud; and identify places to reduce overprovisioning by comparing a VM’s current resources, such as CPU and storage, with the amount the machine actually requires. The company also offers a partner edition that providers may use to monitor customers’ data centers and, hopefully, spot performance problems before they hurt the business. The Cost Calculator for Private Cloud is included with the CloudPhysics Premium Edition, available by an annual subscription that runs about $35 per host per month. Partners can do a test run with a free version.  //@cloudphysics

Cortado today at VMworld added file sharing to its Cortado Corporate Server enterprise mobility management suite using a firewall-protected “virtual data rooms” approach to keep sensitive data on-premises and under IT’s control while enabling collaboration with third parties. External workers and subcontractors can access shared files from PCs or mobile devices and edit them in collaboration with internal employees, all on a separate physical or virtual server. The project owner can set up a secure space and assign rights to individual users. Cortado says “a trained, worldwide network of channel partners” provides support to local customers throughout the world. //@cortado_com {ad}

ExtraHop, which was launched by F5 vets to provide visibility into complex networks, announced two new hooks into VMware’s vRealize cloud management suite. ExtraHop transforms packets into real-time business and IT insight, and the vRealize integrations extend visibility into software-defined data centers. The ExtraHop VMware vRealize Orchestrator Plugin makes it easier to discover VMware virtual machines and switches as they are added to the environment, while ExtraHop alerts may be used to trigger automated workflows within vRealize. // @ExtraHop

Primary Data announced at the show that DataSphere now integrates with VMware vSphere’s Storage-Policy Based Management (SPBM) and storage APIs. DataSphere enables the intelligent placement of data across enterprises’ entire storage pools, whether file, block or object, with policy-driven automation. The goal is to reduce storage overprovisioning while enabling management through vCenter. DataSphere is now available from Primary Data and reseller partners. //@primary_data

RES, which sells software to enable, automate and secure digital workspaces, announced the RES ONE Automation Connector for VMware App Volumes. Connectors are already available for business systems including Citrix XenServer, IBM SoftLayer, Microsoft Hyper-V and Office 365, and MobileIron. The product line extends ITSM suites to ease ticket management and automate requests like resetting a password, giving access to a new application or extending the size of an employee’s email box. For VMware, partners could automatically assign app stacks or provide self-service capabilities.  //@RESsoftware

Rubrik, which bills itself as 100-percent channel, announced a partnership with ViaWest to deploy its hybrid cloud data management capabilities to ViaWest customers, and the companies are demonstrating together at VMworld. Rubrik, which is fresh off a $61 million Series C round, provides automated backup, lighting fast recovery, offsite replication and data archiving through a line of 2U scale-out appliances. They’re not inexpensive, but for the right customer, they can open new data possibilities. //@rubrikInc
