Sungard Availability Services (Sungard AS) is expanding its partnership with Dell Technologies with a new hosted private-cloud offering using Dell EMC storage and compute, as well as VMware’s NSX network virtualization platform.

For applications and data that organizations can’t move to the public cloud, Sungard AS Hosted Private Cloud provides single-tenant resource control along with added security and performance. Sungard AS, Dell EMC and VMware now can provide customers with an offering that delivers the “scalability and agility of a cloud with the security and performance advantages of fully dedicated server, storage and network devices,” Sungard AS said.

VMware NSX is designed to automate the provisioning, deployment and management of networking and security services across environments and application architectures, allowing workloads to more easily be moved into and out of the cloud.

“Sungard AS is teaming up with our strategic technology partners to deliver a best-in-breed hosted private cloud solution, leveraging VMware NSX to help meet the changing demands of an expanding digital landscape,” said Jim Paterson, Sungard AS’ senior vice president of product management. “Customers can depend on us to manage their most critical applications while gaining a cost-optimized, fully managed opex model that will drive transformation, consolidation and improved resiliency for their businesses.”

VMware NSX provides an added level of protection and granularity inside the perimeter of the data center through microsegmentation, helping to secure applications against a broad range of attack vectors while reducing security risks, according to Sungard AS.

“VMware NSX can help companies secure their data, increase control, deliver more predictable performance and gain peace of mind,” said Ajay Patel, senior vice president and general manager of VMware’s cloud provider software business unit. “By combining Sungard AS Hosted Private Cloud with Dell EMC’s infrastructure technology and VMware’s network and security technologies, organizations can create a fully recoverable production environment for their applications and data.”

Forrester expects the hosted private-cloud market to grow 9 percent annually from 2017 to 2022. Sungard AS said this means companies will look to private-cloud offerings from service providers to meet the “high levels of performance, control, security and compliance required for their most critical applications.”
