Dell EMC’s hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) appliances now are available on PowerEdge 14th generation servers designed and optimized for software-defined storage (SDS) and HCI.

Customers of all sizes can expect “even more powerful and predictable performance with even greater configurability for hosting a wide range of mission-critical software applications” on Dell EMC VxRail and XC Series appliances, the company said. VxRail Appliances on PowerEdge 14th generation servers now can be ordered and will be generally available starting Dec. 12, while XC Series models XC640, XC740xd and XC740 on PowerEdge 14th generation servers are generally available today.

Bob Wambach, vice president of marketing for Dell EMC’s converged platforms and solutions division, tells Channel Partners the HCI appliances on the PowerEdge server platform is “great news for partners and customers.”

The upgraded HCI appliance portfolio offers customers faster access to applications and data due to higher core counts, faster clock frequency, more memory channels, and faster memory resulting in as much as 1.7 times more processing power and as much as 62 higher internal bandwidth, Dell EMC said.

“Thanks to strong customer adoption and the support of our partner community, Dell EMC is No.1 in hyperconverged, growing 149 percent year over year at three times faster than the market, which validates our business strategy,” Wambach said. “Customers of all sizes have recognized the value of HCI due to the simplicity of deployment, ease of scaling and cost efficiencies. While the earliest HCI appliances were originally adopted for VDI, there is now significant market demand for appliances that can reliably extend to support core data center applications and more performance-intensive workloads, from Microsoft-based workloads such as SQL and SharePoint, to mission critical deployments such as Oracle and SAP.”

“Hyperconverged systems make up the fastest-growing segment of the converged systems market as we’re seeing a sharp ramp of adoption across all kinds of industries, environments and use cases,” said Eric Sheppard, IDC’s research director of enterprise storage and converged systems. “Hyperconverged systems’ simplicity of deployment, management and scale combined with tighter integration between technologies and proven architectures are key drivers for this growth.”
