Panasonic Rings Into the North American Cloud Space

Panasonic Corp. has entered into the cloud-computing space, at least in North America. Panasonic System Networks Co. of America, a unit of Panasonic Corp. of North America, has developed the Panasonic Cloud Business Phone System for small businesses. Here are the details.

The Panasonic Cloud Business Phone System is web-based, meaning there’s no IT setup and small businesses can activate phone lines by going online rather than going through a tech support operator. According to Panasonic, all a small business has to do is register a phone online and plug it in. The off-the-shelf solution is aimed at small businesses with 10 or fewer employees, and includes one corded and one cordless phone for $299.99. Added features such as remote office, voice mail to e-mail, conferencing and call forwarding are available for $39.95 per line per month.

Panasonic is working with VoIP software provider BroadSoft on the cloud-based solution, and BroadSoft is delivering the real-time voice and multimedia communications services end of the deal. Panasonic is working on other cloud-based solutions that the company hopes to launch by the end of 2011.

It’s clear why Panasonic is starting with the small-business cloud solution. The 5.5 million small businesses in the United States have bought more than $92 billion in telecommunications equipment and services. And when such a large portion of the market calls for specific solutions, companies listen. “Our small business customers tell us they want a simple, easy-to-manage and feature-rich, customizable business phone system,” said Panasonic System Networks Company of America President Bill Taylor in a prepared statement. “Panasonic values this feedback and we have hand-picked the leading companies in their fields to help us reliably meet our customers’ requests.”
