Logicworks, a top 100 cloud services provider, is branding around a new tagline dubbed “the cloud your way.” The concept: Whether customers need a private, public or hybrid cloud, Logicworks stands ready to help — even if you want to extend your applications into third-party clouds like Google Compute Engine. That’s the message from CEO Kenneth Ziegler. “We grew up as a hosting company but our focus has always been on service and being a trusted advisor,” said Ziegler. Hence, the company offers guidance as customers seek to navigate multiple clouds.
Yes, traditional hosting services are a big piece of Logicworks’ business. But the organization is also working closely with media companies, software companies and other types of organizations that demand highly available cloud technologies. Whether you have a private cloud running Citrix XenServer or VMware, you can burst over onto Logicworks’ public cloud. “We’re hypervisor agnostic. We’ll even manage your infrastructure.” (Call it managed services meet cloud services.)
Geeks In the House
Logicworks has 75 employees, 50 of which are full-time technicians. Founded in 1993, the company shifted to complex managed hosting in 1998; became the first MySQL enterprise partner in 2003; introduced private cloud hosting in 2007; launched Logicworks cloud in 2010; and grew to three national datacenters by 2011. “We’ve always grown methodically and we continue to grow through word of mouth. But now we’re at a point where we have a platform in place to grow much more rapidly than in the past.
On the partner program front, Logicworks works closely with media companies — hence a deep focus on content management systems (CMS) like Drupal and WordPress. Big-name digital agencies like Razorfish and boutique agencies also are on board. The company also has a close following in the defense sector, where numerous organizations sub-contract to Logicworks because of its commitment to corporate compliance.
Instead of declaring war on peer cloud service providers (CSPs), Logicworks sees an opportunity to partner up. “The overall pie is growing for everyone. I see an opportunity for us to help our customers work with multiple clouds.”
Logicworks insiders apparently like the strategy. The average tenure for a company technician is six years.
How is the company performing overall? That’s difficult to say since Logicworks is privately held. But Ziegler obviously has high hopes for the “cloud your way” strategy.
