GFI Software Acquires Monitis for Cloud Monitoring

GFI Software has acquired Monitis, which develops cloud-based network and systems monitoring software. The GFI-Monitis deal surfaces a few weeks before the first GFI User Conference (Nov. 8-9, Orland0, Fla.). Monitis will march forward as its own brand, while also integrating into the GFI Max RemoteManagement platform, which GFI promotes to MSPs. Meanwhile, there are also signs that GFI and Autotask are working more closely together. Here’s why.

First, a look at the GFI-Monitis deal. Financial terms were not disclosed. Alistair Forbes, general manager of the GFI Max Business Unit, declined to say how many employees Monitis had. But Forbes describes the deal as a key way for GFI Software to further accelerate its efforts to promote end-to-end systems monitoring, provided by MSPs to small business customers.

Forbes also said it is time for the media to stop describing GFI Software as merely an up-and-coming player in the MSP software market. Although he didn’t disclose installed base figures, Forbes said GFI Software now ranks among the top providers of monitoring capabilities to MSPs.

By adding Monitis to the fold, GFI’s partners and customers will be able to monitor, test and manage on-premise and off-premise infrastructure and applications, according to a prepared GFI statement. More than 80,000 users leverage Monitis to monitor and manage more than 200,000 websites and cloud application worldwide.

Meanwhile, there are signs that GFI and Autotask are working more closely together. Autotask CEO Mark Cattini apparently spoke at a GFI Software User Conference Oct. 20 in Oxford. And Autotask apparently will be on hand for the first U.S.-based GFI User Conference, scheduled for Nov. 8-9 in Orlando. Ironically, Autotask rival ConnectWise is hosting the annual IT Nation conference that same week in Orlando.
