Verizon Enterprise Solutions today announced a collaboration with Cloudera, an enterprise analytic data management provider, to deliver cloud-based big data analytics services to Verizon Cloud clients.

Introduced in early October, Verizon Cloud will be available in public beta before the quarter is over. Cloudera, the latest enterprise-class service being configured to run on the Verizon Cloud, is designed to provide clients the flexibility to develop their own big-data analytics applications based on the Apache Hadoop open source framework.

The newly released Cloudera Enterprise 5  which includes CDH, Cloudera’s distribution of Apache Hadoop, Cloudera Manager and Cloudera Navigator  will run on top of Verizon’s  cloud infrastructure. This will deliver fast, scalable and simple data management and analysis solutions to large and small organizations. A Cloudera distribution supporting billions of records can be deployed on the Verizon Cloud in a matter of hours significantly faster than deployments on generic public clouds, the companies said.

“Enterprises continue to invest heavily in cloud and managed services and they need big data solutions to be a part of these offerings,” said Mike Olson, Cloudera’s chief strategy officer.

Verizon said its focus is to bring the full power and functionality of enterprise-class technology to the cloud while providing clients control and flexibility over the environment. The company is developing an ecosystem of enterprise technologies that will be specifically built to run on its new infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) platform.

“Cloudera has transformed how companies put big data in the cloud,” said John Harrobin, chief marketing officer for Verizon Enterprise Solutions. “The ability to identify, gather, store and share large amounts of data is one of the true benefits of cloud computing. Providing those capabilities on top of our high-performing, secure and scalable architecture strengthens the Verizon Cloud offering for our clients.”
