Citrix Systems and NetApp today announced that their current collaboration will be extended to provide a fully integrated cloud orchestration and storage solution designed to address storage automation, resource allocation and virtual machine backup and recovery.

In making the announcement at Citrix’s global conference Citrix Synergy in Barcelona, the companies stated that the move is intended to greatly simplify cloud storage deployment for their mutual customers and result in faster transitions to private and hybrid clouds.

Currently, product integrations enable Citrix CloudPlatform, which is based on Apache CloudStack, to discover and seamlessly incorporate NetApp storage as primary and secondary storage. This collaboration will be expanded to combine NetApp’s unified storage solutions and Data ONTAP system with both CloudPlatform and the Apache CloudStack project. According to Citrix and NetApp, this will provide users with a cloud-ready storage environment that will optimize storage utilization, simplify maintenance and accelerate transitions.
