Utility Telephone Expands Agent Program

Utility Telephone (Booth #1218), a full service facilities-based CLEC serving California and Nevada, is announcing at the Channel Partners Conference & Expo that it is expanding and formalizing its agent program.

The company has been operating under a direct sales model with only about a dozen agents and is now seeking to expand that, said Mark Jordan, former CEO of TCAST Communications, who joined the company in 2009 to oversee sales, including beefing up the agent program.

Since joining the company, Jordan said he has revamped the program, tightened up the contracts and added evergreen commissions. The program has one tier of agents, and there are no quotas. All commissions are residual.

Presently, the company does not have channel managers, but Jordan plans to add them as the program grows. His goal is to have 100 agents in the program within six months.

“We have always been very excited about the agent channel,” said Jason Mills, president of Utility Telephone. “We think the time is right to get the word out to agents who might not have heard of us before. We are THE alternative provider in California.”

Mills added that Utility Telephone has the required products and services agents need plus a strong back office and a helpful service staff. “We offer that personal touch not found in our industry today,” he said. “And remember folks, no ACDs at Utility Telephone.”

The company’s core products include burstable Internet T1, ADSL, SHDSL, local and long-distance services. It also is rolling out hosted IP telephony, Web hosting and SaaS services in 2010.
