CEO Larry Ellison’s big pitch: Oracle’s public cloud, private cloud and on-premises technologies all leverage the same hardware and software, allowing businesses to easily move workloads between the three architectures.
Oracle Database 12c, discussed at OpenWorld, has a pluggable architecture. Translation: It’s a multi-tenant design for cloud computing.
President Mark Hurd’s message: For customers that want to run Oracle applications in the cloud, Oracle’s Public Cloud is the best location to do so.
Hurd also claimed Engineered Systems — hardware and software designed to work together — will topple commodity x86 servers and high-volume software from rivals.
Oracle Channel Chief Judson Althoff’s message: A new Oracle Cloud Partner Program supports resellers, cloud builders as well as solutions providers that want to generate recurring revenues.
Oracle is connecting the dots between its software and social media. Plus, CEO Larry Ellison sees an opportunity to analyze structured and unstructured data (including Twitter tweets) for marketing and business strategy efforts.
Tom LaRocca, a former HP channel leader, joined Oracle in January 2012 as VP of worldwide product strategy and alliances. He’s driving relationships with Arrow, Avnet and Tech Data. And watch for him to influence Oracle Linux and Oracle VM in the channel.
How’s this for ironic: The press kept asking Oracle about competition with Amazon Web Services. But Amazon had a big presence at OpenWorld, and promoted its ability to run Oracle in the Amazon cloud.
More irony: While Oracle and SAP trade punches in the enterprise software market, SAP had a big presence at OpenWorld, promoting applications that run on Oracle’s database.
