Question: What’s your mobile device management (MDM) strategy for iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, Google Android and mobile Windows devices? As tablets and smartphones proliferate, Zenprise, a mobile device management (MDM) software provider, wants to help VARs and MSPs to become best in-class providers of mobile and security software solutions.

To wit: The new Zenprise Partner Network promotes Zenprise MobileManager and Zencloud to assist mobile device management and mobile security. Zendesk claims to provide end-customers with security at the device, application and network levels. The company calls it the Zenprise triple Defense, made up of three components.

  1. Dynamic Defense: provides contextually aware device security that automatically detects threats and automatically adjusts security settings to block the risk.

  2. App Tunnels: gives users secure and encrypted mobile access to business apps from smartphones and tablets.

  3. Zenprise Secure Mobile Gateway: provides network security by automatically blocking users that are violating a blacklist or whitelist.

The Zenprise Partner Network has two levels: Authorized and Premier. All partners start as Authorized Partners. Some will move up to Premier Partner status as they achieve various sales milestones that vary from partner to partner and region to region, Zenprise indicated. When a Zenprise partner achieves Premier Partner status, they will be eligible for additional support from Zenprise technicians, rebates and lead sharing.

Mobile device management (MDM) is a hot trend. Forrester Research says MDM spending will grow from $3.9 billion today to $6.6 billion in by 2015.  According to Zenprise, some of its customers support over 65,000 mobile devices and others plann to support up to five million devices.

MSPmentor suggested in early September that MSPs would have to tweak SLAs to include tablets, and we’re seeing some of that here with Zenprise. Other companies supporting tablets include Kaseya and StillSecure. We’ll be poking around for additional examples.
