LogMeIn Free Alternatives for Remote Access

Looking for free alternatives to LogMeIn (LOGM)? LogMeIn’s announcement that it would pull the plug on the free version of its remote control software created a frenzy among those who have used it to support small groups of users remotely. RealVNC

RealVNC was quick to jump on the bandwagon today with a press release announcing its continued commitment to free remote access products, coexisting with premium product licensing. The company says it was founded in 2002 “by the people who gave VNC to the world back in 1998.”

“There have always been free versions of VNC, and there always will be,” said Andy Harter, CEO of RealVNC, in a prepared statement. “Fifteen years ago VNC helped to create the whole remote access market, and we are still leading innovation and development of remote access products.”

The company said that its core RealVNC product is available with both free and commercial licensing and offers best in class VNC remote access software on a mix of Windows, Mac OS X, UNIX/Linux and mobile platforms. https://www.realvnc.com/download/

TeamViewer

TeamViewer claims more than 200 million installations. Part of the GFI Software family the solution is free for non-commercial users and can be downloaded directly from the web site. http://www.teamviewer.com/

CrossLoop

CrossLoop offers free remote computer access to one computer. If you are supporting any more than that, you need to buy the paid subscription. http://www.crossloop.com/

Chrome Remote Desktop

Chrome Remote Desktop is available as a Chrome extension that lets users remotely access other computers via a Chrome browser or Chromebook. Google says it can be used for ad hoc remote support or for a more long-term solution for remote access to applications and files. PocketCloud

TightVNC

TightVNC is a free, GNU license remote control software package. It is free for both personal and commercial use, with full source code available, cross-platform and available for Windows and Unix with Java client included, and compatible with standard VNC software, conforming to RFB protocol specifications.
