Tangoe Upgrades MDM to Support Windows Phone 7

Telecom expense management firm Tangoe Inc. has updated its Mobile Device Manager software to support smartphones running the Windows Phone 7 platform.

Tangoe sells MDM through channel partners and upgraded the product just as more enterprises are predicted to adopt Windows Phone 7 devices, the company said earlier this month.

The latest version of MDM 5.2 lets employees choose which mobile device they want to use, while also ensuring data security, user authorization, feature control, applications management, troubleshooting, asset-tracking and more, Tangoe said.

The launch of Windows Phone 7 marks another chapter in the rapid proliferation of consumer devices within the enterprise, a trend we see as particularly prominent during the holiday season when even more workers upgrade to new, consumer-inspired smartphones,” said Julie Palen, Tangoes senior vice president of Mobile Device Management. This also presents challenges for enterprise IT departments, which continue to be flooded with requests for device support, maintenance and security monitoring.”

But using MDM solves those problems, Palen said, making the process painless and worry-free.”

Thats partly due to how MDM allows IT departments to activate Windows Phone 7 devices, Tangoe said. For example, the software uses ActiveSync and ActiveSync mailbox policies to prep the phones. Tangoe MDM also can pull device details from Exchange for a specific device and user. Tangoe plans to add features to Windows Phone 7 mobile support; those changes will include voice, SMS and data usage tracking, roaming detection, application management and device alerts.

Tangoes MDM also supports the iPhone, iPad, Android and BlackBerry.
