McAfee Mvision Cloud for Amazon Web Services (AWS) now allows security groups to integrate natively into DevOps processes and tool sets to discover security issues before systems are deployed.

McAfee says Mvision Cloud for AWS provides a cloud security solution that works “consistently” across IaaS, PaaS and SaaS environments. The new capabilities are available now.

John Dodds, McAfee’s director of product management, tells us customers want the ability to evaluate security consistently across all apps and remove any inconsistency between developer teams. Developers also want to ensure that “security requirements are accounted for in their builds so that their tests run against secured systems that won’t require configuration changes when deployed,” he said.

“We can give developers a frictionless way to have the same best-of-breed security baked into their deployment templates,” he said. “The feedback from partners and customers alike has been consistent: Help remove risk and resolve issues at the root cause. We are fixing the issue on a template before it becomes a finding on 20 systems deployed with that template. Partners and customers will be spending less time closing out repetitive issues and more time getting the most out of the cloud.”

New capabilities include security scans for AWS CloudFormation templates, and preemptive risk avoidance to ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks and reduce the likelihood of data loss, abuse or fines associated with improper security controls.

The updates close competitive gaps against some of the pure-play tools on the market, Dodds said.

“Our strength is in our coverage and our portfolio,” he said. “Removing competitive advantages [of] some of the pure-play validation tools makes our comprehensive layered approach even stronger. This also allows us to reach out to the DevOps buyer that previously didn’t consider McAfee when looking for template validation tools. Partners will have the ability to embed McAfee tech into many customers sooner, allowing them to take advantage of our portfolio’s ability to give layered security.”

“McAfee Mvision Cloud helps DevOps teams focus on implementing security as opposed to reacting to incidents after the fact — creating an additional layer of security for customer workloads on AWS,” said Rohit Gupta, AWS’ global ecosystem lead, security.
