Quest Software's PSA Acquisition: Who Is BlueFolder?

BlueFolder

MSPmentor reported earlier today that Quest Software has acquired BlueFolder, which offers a cloud-based IT service management platform. PacketTrap, a Quest business, will apparently rebrand BlueFolder as PacketTrap PSA. But who is BlueFolder in the first place? Here’s the background.

According to the company’s website, BlueFolder:

  • Was founded in 2003 by Tim Newcome and Jeff Emrich. Tim’s company (Newcome Electronic Systems) hired Jeff’s company (DataFuse) in 1998 to develop a custom application for tracking their quotes and projects. The resulting application sparked the creation of BlueFolder.

  • In 2005 introduced its SaaS-based platform, positioning the company to ride the cloud computing wave.

  • Has a niche following among MSPs. A recent example: ProBleu adopted BlueFolder and lifted its billings by 60 percent.

  • In 2010 increased company revenues 28 percent, reached 247 new customers, and helped customers process 67 percent more service requests.

Sometime in the next few weeks or months, PacketTrap apparently will relaunch BlueFolder as PacketTrap PSA.
