Dyn Hires Ex-Verisign VP Matt Larson as Chief Architect

Internet infrastructure as a service (IaaS) provider Dyn has hired Matt Larson as its chief architect to assist with the technical direction of the company. Larson previously served as vice president of research at Verisign and director of Verisign Labs,

Larson is charged with ensuring the company’s systems grow to be more scalable, higher performing, and more reliable. He will also work closely with new company hires, including Chris Griffiths, vice president of engineering; Nathan Meyer, director of product and traffic management; and Chris Brenton, director of security.

Larson’s 13-year career at Verisign included work with DNS protocol and he also served as an operations specialist. In his most recent role at the company he led the company’s labs division, where he was responsible for applied research, university partnerships and standards bodies, and industry forum relations.

Larson began his professional career at HP (HPQ) where he worked there until 1997. Following his time at HP he co-founded Acme Byte & Wire LLC, a private consulting and training company that specialized in DNS and Internet security and worked with Fortune 100 companies. Verisign bought Acme Byte & Wire in June, 2000

“Matt is one of the most revered individuals within the DNS and Internet operations community,” said Dyn CEO Jeremy Hitchcock said in his prepared remarks. “I could not think of a better person to add to our executive team. Dyn is first and foremost committed to its engineering and technology.”

Larson said in a prepared statement that he’s followed Dyn’s work since the company started.

“They have a proud history and I am looking forward to helping write future chapters,” he said. “They’ve assembled an all-star team of technical talent and together, and we will do great things for the Internet,” he said.

Larson will be working directly with Dyn CTO Cory von Wallenstein.

Dyn recently added Red Hat (RHT) and other technology veterans to its Thought Leadership Council at the end of June 2013.
