LogMeIn Cubby

LogMeIn (Nasdaq: LOGM) has announced general availability of Cubby, a cloud sync and storage service that seeks to counter Box. In fact, Cubby arrives the very same week that Box has overhauled its channel partner program. A heads up to managed services providers (MSPs): Watch for LogMeIn to gradually connect the dots between Cubby and its other cloud-based offerings, potentially empowering channel partners to promote “personal cloud” services for collaboration, remote access and content management.

Instead of promoting silo offerings, LogMeIn positions its cloud portfolio this way:

“Cubby joins LogMeIn’s popular online meeting and collaboration service join.me, and LogMeIn’s namesake remote access product, LogMeIn Free/Pro, as part of the company’s access and collaboration cloud services. These simple, secure cloud services ‹ offered in both free and premium versions ‹ are used by tens of millions of individuals to work from virtually anywhere across a blend of work and personal devices, while helping hundreds of thousands of small and medium businesses boost collaboration across distributed teams and offices.”

It’s a safe bet MSPs will give Cubby a look. Already, 35.9 percent of MSPs leverage one or more LogMeIn tools, according to our sixth-annual MSPmentor 100 survey (complete results coming Feb. 14). Plus, LogMeIn recently hired Intronis veteran Ted Roller to help accelerate an MSP and channel push.

I don’t believe LogMeIn has announced a channel effort for Cubby yet. But I suspect company insiders see partner opportunities ahead.

Still, plenty of competition awaits LogMeIn. In addition to established offerings like Box and Dropbox, upstarts like Anchor now promote file syncing services to MSPs.
