Alves Leaves Sprint for PointOne

Startup packet-based service provider PointOne
Telecommunications Inc. (www.point-one.net) has lured yet another prominent carrier executive from a top post, naming Paget L. Alves as its CEO and president. Alves was the president of sales and support for Sprint Business Services Group
(www.sprint.com), a position he was awarded last year after re-energizing the No. 3 carrier’s wholesale division.

Previously, PointOne recruited its COO Ron Harden from his role as vice president of marketing for the network services unit of Williams Communications Group Inc.

Alves succeeds Richard Sorenson, who will remain as PointOne’s chairman of the board.

“Paget has the experience we were looking for to continue growing our wholesale business, to expand our data product set, and to penetrate enterprise markets,” says Sorenson. “With a focus on sales and management, Mr. Alves has demonstrated success in creating new markets and distribution channels domestically and internationally.”

Alves brings 20 years experience in the technology and communications industry. At Sprint, he served as president of the Wholesale Services Group and vice president and general manager of reseller services for the Wholesale Services Group. Prior to joining Sprint, Alves was executive vice president and COO of Murata Business Systems and area counsel and staff attorney for IBM Corp.
