Industry-specific applications developer Vlocity launched two vertical apps on the Salesforce1 Platform at Dreamforce 2014 this week. With its new cloud services, Vlocity is targeting the communications and insurance industries.

The two apps fit into a larger portfolio of cloud services dubbed Vlocity Industry Cloud Apps. Aimed at large enterprises and medium-sized businesses, the Vlocity apps aim to connect businesses “with their customers, partners and employees in a productive, efficient manner consistent with the unique demands of their specific industries.”

“Industry-specific cloud and mobile apps are the next generation of application software,” said David Schmaier, co-founder and CEO of Vlocity, in a prepared statement. “Organizations are asking for cloud software built for their industry that embeds industry best practices, a continuous flow of new features, and less ongoing maintenance. We are excited to join the Salesforce Partner Program and deliver two industry cloud apps that are modern, easy to deploy, and include deep functionality for each industry.”

Vlocity hinted that these new apps will be the first two in an expanding portfolio of services on the Salesforce1 Platform. The first apps are:

  • Vlocity Communications, which provides communications companies with cloud-based business support system functionality. The goal is to offer a unified subscriber experience using properly-configured price quotes, asset-based order management, billing integration and subscriber services.

  • Vlocity Insurance, an app targeted at insurance companies focused on individual life, employee benefits and certain segments of the property and casualty insurance sectors. The app was developed to provide those companies with policy quoting, pricing and renewal tools in the cloud, as well as correct product advice and risk evaluation for consumer, commercial and group insurance. Vlocity is distributing the apps through Salesforce AppExchange.

“Vlocity brings deep insights and considerable domain expertise into the communications and insurance industries,” said Keith Block, vice chairman and president of Salesforce, in a prepared statement. “Our customers are asking for industry-specific cloud solutions, and we look forward to working with Vlocity to add new capabilities to our Customer Success Platform.”
