Managed Services Acquisition: eCommerce Industries Buys FMAudit

Just when I was set to unplug for the weekend… this nugget of news hit my inbox: eCommerce Industries, Inc. (ECi) has acquired FMAudit, LLC, a managed print services specialist in Jefferson City, Mo. This is the second major merger or acquisition involving managed print services so far in 2011.

Alas, the eCommerce-FMAudit press release doesn’t offer many details about the deal. Most of the release includes celebratory quotes from ECi COO Trevor Gruenewald and FMAudit President Kevin Tetu. Financial details were not disclosed, nor were any details about how many FMAudit employees will join eCommerce Industries. I’ve reached out to both companies for additional comment.

MSPmentor first heard about FMAudit in May 2008, when the company inked a managed services relationship with Tech Data. Since that time, FMAudit has been inking relationships across North America and Europe, including a managed print relationship with Great America Leasing in mid-2010.

Meanwhile, the managed print services market has been undergoing a revolution and an evolution. The revolution: Rapidly growing demand for managed print services. The evolution: Some VARs and MSPs finally embracing managed print services, though I’m surprised the adoption hasn’t been more widespread.

The ECI-FMAudit deal is the second managed print services acquisition MSPmentor has seen in 2011. Printelligent acquired DirectPointe’s managed print business in January 2011. DirectPointe has since put its managed services business up for sale, MSPmentor has learned.
