Silver Peak Labs Receives VSPEX Validation for WAN Optimization

Silver Peak became the second company this week to receive full VSPEX Lab Validation for one of its products, with the company’s data acceleration software being officially vetted as part of EMC’s VSPEX solution. The announcement came during EMC World 2014 in Las Vegas, where the storage vendor revealed a bevvy of new products, partnerships and solutions for the partner community.

Silver Peak for VSPEX combines wide area network (WAN) optimization software with virtual EMC RecoverPoint to enable customers to deploy their infrastructure faster and without the risk and complexity of building their own framework, according to the release. The data acceleration software layers on top of the VSPEX with EMC RecoverPoint for a fully integrated solution, allowing customers to solve distance, bandwidth and packet loss problems when replicating data over WAN. Silver Peak said the combination of its solution with VSPEX enables customers to maximize available bandwidth for data protection, replicate more data in less time and easily meet their recovery point objectives.

“EMC VSPEX is a simple, efficient and flexible solution optimized for the most popular use cases for customers moving to cloud computing,” said Gary Garcia, director of Global Solutions Marketing, VSPEX at EMC, in a prepared statement. “Silver Peak’s software-defined approach to data acceleration enables customers to further reduce their WAN bandwidth requirements and networking costs while taking advantage of EMC RecoverPoint replication over any distance.”

By combining Silver Peak with VSPEX for EMC RecoverPoint, customers will be able to extend their replication distance by reducing the impact of WAN latency. The integration between Silver Peak and RecoverPoint allows target arrays to be placed anywhere, helping to eliminate network limitations. The solution also fixes WAN quality issues for smoother performance across low-cost WANs, further reducing the end cost of the network for businesses, according to the company. By maximizing the available bandwidth for its customers, the Silver Peak solution compliments RecoverPoint’s de-duplication by looking for and matching recurring data patterns within data blocks.

Silver Peak’s is the second technology to earn validation from EMC; power management company Eaton announced it, too, had received EMC VSPEX Labs validation for its power management solutions suite. The validation program allows partners to build their own solution stacks that can be tested and approved as solutions for the VSPEX architecture. EMC said VSPEX Labs helps to make physical VSPEX stacks more accessible for software and hardware vendors so they can test and validate the performance of their technology and figure out how to deploy that technology as part of the VSPEX solution.
