Open Systems, a secure access service edge (SASE) provider, has acquired Born in the Cloud, a Microsoft gold partner. Born in the Cloud offers its customers threat detection, prevention and response.

The acquisition follows the launch of Open Systems’ new cloud-native managed detection and response (MDR) service. The deal brings together two Microsoft partners to support the increasing use of mobile devices, edge computing and the cloud.

Open Systems didn’t say how much it paid for Born in the Cloud.

This is Open Systems’ second acquisition this year. It bought Sqooba, an AIOps and big data analytics provider, in January.

Big Opportunities

Jeff Brown is Open Systems‘ CEO. He said the acquisition “definitely” creates opportunities for his company’s partners. More enterprises are adopting the cloud and choosing Azure as their platform.

“Born in the Cloud specializes in helping enterprises securely onboard Azure and leverage Sentinel’s security information and event management (SIEM). “This will give our partners the confidence to tackle even more complex cloud security scenarios,” he said. “[That’s] thanks to our newly deepened bench of engineering experts in security, Azure and Sentinel.”

Starting this month, partners can offer Open Systems’ MDR service. It is “tremendously compelling” as many employees work from home and access company networks to do their jobs, Brown said.

Born in the Cloud’s engineers gives Open Systems and its partners another distinct competitive advantage, Brown said.

“They have succeeded where other engineers have failed, overcoming the toughest security and migration challenges for enterprises adopting Azure,” he said. “Microsoft connected us. They know how good Born in the Cloud is as they recognized them as a finalist for the Top Managed SOC/MDR Award in the Microsoft Security 20/20 Partner Awards.”

Acquisitions allow Open Systems to enter new markets faster and add complementary technologies to its SASE and MDR services, he said.

“Joining Open Systems gives us the scale to serve more large clients, while still retaining the nimbleness to quickly address customer needs,” said Paul Keely, Born in the Cloud’s founder. “Together, we offer Azure customers an unbeatable combination of proven networking and security solutions supported by world-class engineers who thrive on challenges.”

Keely joined Open Systems as general manager to oversee the company’s Born in the Cloud business unit.
