Endace Adds Netflow to NinjaProbe Appliances

Endace Ltd, a provider of network traffic monitoring solutions, today announced that its NinjaProbe appliances can now generate and export NetFlow statistics. By building upon technology licensed from Sprint Nextel Applied Research & Advanced Technology Labs (AR&ATL) Endace application-independent monitoring probes have the ability to produce granular NetFlow statistics independent of the network infrastructure, removing overhead on key transport devices.

This enhancement enables network operators to increase return on monitoring infrastructure investments by using the same probes for a larger range of monitoring applications, integrating with existing NetFlow tools.

“At Sprint AR&ATL we continue to drive new areas of innovation in next-generation networks, working with industry leaders such as Endace to commercialize our technology,” said Tim Kelley, director, Sprint Nextel AR&ATL. NetFlow records are widely used as the source of traffic statistics for many different networking security and operational tools. The ability to optimize statistics for each application is key in analyzing high-volume network traffic

NetFlow statistics have historically been generated by the switching and routing infrastructure within the network however as network speeds and performance demands increase, moving NetFlow generation to the NinjaProbe removes this performance and real estate overhead from the infrastructure. Since NinjaProbe systems are independent from the network infrastructure, operators can monitor complex multivendor networks where needed and generate granular statistics under all network conditions.

With the Endace hardware-accelerated NinjaFlow application, NinjaProbe appliances analyze every packet to selectively distribute NetFlow records to multiple collectors or analyzers. Flexible control of the flow exports enables network operators to maximize the benefits of their existing solutions by tailoring NinjaProbe outputs to meet the needs of each NetFlow analysis application.
