Telarus Releases Ethernet Search Tool

Master agency Telarus today announced that it has released an “XML Plug-In” version of its Ethernet search tool for use by its agents. The addition of the Ethernet search tool to the existing GeoQuote plug-in allows agents the ability to attract and process leads using their own Web sites in addition to the main Telarus Ethernet marketing portal: www.ShopforEthernet.com. All leads captured by the XML plug-in are saved in Telarus’ main database and made available to the agent via the Telarus agent back office.

The new Ethernet research tool created by Telarus was first made available to the public in August through the Web site www.ShopforEthernet.com. Now, with the release of the Ethernet-ready GeoQuote XML plug-in, there are hundreds of Web sites that actively are gathering metro Ethernet and Gig-E leads for Telarus agents, the company said. Once an agent takes delivery of the Web site code, the agent can make branding and cosmetic changes to the GUI.

“Ethernet is the future of commercial broadband,” said Lance Akins, vice president of sales for Telarus. “Helping our agents attract customers who are looking for buildings where coveted Ethernet services are available is our primary goal. It benefits the users and carriers together, since the cost per meg is lower to the end user, and the margin is much higher for the service provider all without the local Bell in the middle of the relationship.”

The current roster of service providers who have supplied the information necessary for inclusion in the XML GeoQuote Plug-in Ethernet tool include Cavalier, Telnes, Level3, MegaPath, Time Warner Telecom and XO Communications. To protect the proprietary and trade secret information provided by these carriers, the GeoQuote Ethernet lookup tool runs in “carrier-agnostic mode” on the public GeoQuote Plug-in sites. This means that no carrier Lit Building information is accessible to the general public at any time. However, the authorized Telarus sales agent who ends up working with prospects (who enter their information into the Web site) have total access to carrier data. This enables agents to drastically shorten the time it takes to research carrier offerings, not to mention reducing the amount of wasted time carriers spend researching opportunities that just don’t exist, said the company.
