Technology Channel Association (TCA), which represents the indirect telecom sales channel, announced that it will offer the first-ever certification program for cable communications services.

The  Certified Cable Professional (CCP) program is in addition to the TCA’s Certified Telecommunications Professional (CTP), which was launched in fall 2010.

CTP certification verifies that telecommunications professionals have a solid understanding of critical industry fundamentals, such as industry history, voice and data communications, telecommunications administration, network security/management and agent business best practices. TCA recently expanded upon the CTP certification criteria to include content on MPLS, cloud and high-capacity services knowledge.

CCP builds on CTP concepts as they relate to cable service delivery. Likewise, CTP certification is a prerequisite for CCP certification.

The CCP requires that individuals have an understanding of the following: cable history, business-class Internet, value-added services, Ethernet services, voice services, cable differentiators, TV services, myths about cable, service availability and business process.

The CCP certification is designed for those in customer-facing roles.

With the addition of the CCP certification, TCA is setting the bar for cable industry professionals," said TCA President Jeff Ponts, who also is executive vice president of Datatel Solutions Inc., a telecom master agency.  "The added certification will speak to their knowledge and grasp of the industry and will certainly catapult their professional careers in a forward direction."
