HP ProCurve and Cisco: Getting Along?

Screen shot 2010-01-27 at 12.37.47 AMFor roughly a year, Cisco Systems and Hewlett-Packard have been locked in a war on multiple fronts — from data centers to servers to networks. The duo will even host rival partner conferences the same week in April 2010. Now here’s the twist: Plenty of VARs continue to build mixed networks leveraging Cisco and HP gear. With those solutions providers in mind, ClassOnDemand.net has launched training for mixed Cisco-HP networks. Intrigued?

Over at ClassOnDemand.net, you can become a expert in nearly all things digital, with specialization in industry leading production software. But it’s not all fun and creative games. Some of the education involves training for IT Pros.

The one that caught our eye is the aforementioned merging of Cisco and HP technologies. The class title is simply “Integrating a Pro Curve and Cisco Network.” It’s a timely idea. The full module on HP Pro Curve and Cisco Networks is detailed as follows:

This course is designed for HP ProCurve and/or Cisco systems engineers, network engineers, and network specialists who design, deploy and manage interoperable HP ProCurve and Cisco networks. For students planning to sit Accredited Systems Engineer (ASE) courses, this training will provide an excellent foundation in preparation for the exams.

The class is taught by:

John Lancaster, an industry recognized expert on the topic of Cisco and HP ProCurve interoperability, [in] over ten-hours of in-depth lessons…[on]… the integration, configuration and management of network switches, which are deployed in an interconnected network, through the use of VLANs, Link Aggregation, Spanning Tree, Rapid-PVST+ and MSTP.

If this sounds like something right up your alley, you can check out the preview of the training videos. Assuming ClassOnDemand.net is a quality educator, the course could help to keep VARs focused on real value — network integration — rather than vendor showdowns.
