Juniper: More Channel Team Changes

Juniper Networks has spent recent months searching for a new global channel chief. Now comes word that Juniper Europe channel veteran David Small is leaping to McAfee for a similar position. Here’s the update on both items.

Juniper back in May 2010 said Global Channel Chief Frank Vitagliano was shifting from Senior VP, Worldwide Channels to the new position of Senior VP, Partners-Americas. The move allowed Vitagliano to focus more on North American markets, but opened up the Global Channel Chief position at Juniper. According to a spokeswoman for Juniper, a new Global Channel Chief has yet to be announced.

Seems like a pretty darn lengthy executive search. The VAR Guy is poking around to see if the search has hit any snags…

International Move

Meanwhile, David Small has left Juniper EMEA for a similar position at McAfee, where he’ll serve as VP of channel and commercial business for McAfee in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). According to a McAfee press release:

Small will report to Gert-Jan Schenk, president of EMEA for McAfee. Small started January 4th, and is based out of the McAfee office in Cork, Ireland. Small joins McAfee from Juniper Networks where he served as vice president of channel sales in EMEA. In this role, he managed channel sales across EMEA for Juniper Networks where he grew the channel partners by 200%.

The VAR Guy wonders: Did Small leave Juniper because he didn’t get the Juniper Global Channel Chief position? Hmmm… pure speculation on The VAR Guy’s part. And a Juniper spokesperson said the company had no comment.

Regardless, Juniper’s channel team seems to be connecting well with partners. Juniper’s stock has climbed sharply from about $23 in July 2010 to about $37.90 on January 7, 2011. The sharp incline suggests Wall Street, customers — and partners — believe in Juniper’s go-to-market strategy.

Still, Juniper’s hunt for a global channel chief seems to be taking longer than the typical search…
