Tablet Fleet Management Platform MokiMobility Raises $2M

tomkarrenCloud-based mobile device management has made more noise this week as cloud-based MDM provider MokiMobility announcing $2 million in seed funding. The money will be used to expand the company’s platform, the company said in its press release. Here’s the scoop.

But first, some background about the company. MokiMobility is a Lehi, Utah-based startup that has built a platform designed for managing fleets of tablets — both point of sale tablets and other “purposed” tablets such as those used as kiosks. The round of funding was led by investment firm Epic Ventures, along with additional individual investors, including Spencer Tall, partner at Allegis Capital and Tyler Smith at Fusion-IO.

Epic Ventures Partner Nick Efstratis said in a prepared statement that MokiMobility’s solution has opened a large market opportunity for cloud-based management and security of mobile devices. He added that the company will become a market leader in secure purposed mobile solutions.

“As companies rush to deploy mobile devices for customer-facing applications, particularly as mobile point-of-sale terminals, the need to properly secure, manage and monitor these devices becomes ever more urgent,” said MokiMobility CEO Tom Karren (pictured) said in a prepared statement. “With this investment, MokiMobility is positioned to expand our platform to better enable developers, merchants and solutions providers with the security, monitoring and management their innovative solutions require.”

UPDATE: MokiMobility has provided some more insight into their company and recent funding round. The company, which has about 100 customers, mostly in the United States, said the funding will be used specifically on end-point security enhancement. The company expects another round of funding by the end of the year.
