Theres more confirmation today that the Motorola Droid 2 the much-anticipated follow-up to the original Droid will be available for purchase Aug. 12. That date was leaked last week from whats supposedly an internal Verizon blog.

One of Soft Sailors tipsters” today tells the site that employee training on the Droid 2 is underway at Verizon Wireless, meaning release of the smartphone to the public is drawing near, backing up last weeks report.

The Droid 2 is expected to run on Android 2.2, can be upgraded from 8GB to 32GB, and includes full Flash support and real-time social networking abilities.

The smartphone will have a virtual keyboard, 512MB of RAM, a 5-megapixel camera, a 1GHz processor and more. Expect the price to be comparable to its chief rivals around $200 with a two-year Verizon Wireless service agreement.
