Angry Birds and Facebook are tied at number one for the most blacklisted app by employers in the United States, with Dropbox ranking number one in the United Kingdom. Absolute Software Corporation recently released the results of its Mobile Security Policy survey, revealing the most blacklisted and whitelisted applications by employers. Which apps are taboo? We'll provide the details.

Vanson Bourne, a content marketing company that Absolute Software hired to conduct the research, surveyed companies in the United States and the United Kingdom to focus on trends and studies in bring your own device (BYOD) and mobile device management (MDM). According to the survey, email applications are most encouraged by IT. Internet browser applications are close behind, ranking second, while shared storage applications rank third. Applications which allow employees to chat fall to the bottom.

According to the survey, the most whitelisted apps in the United States are the following:

  • Email

  • Facebook

  • Skype

  • Twitter

  • LinkedIn

The following apps were blacklisted by employers in the United States:

  • Angry Birds

  • Facebook

  • Dropbox

  • Plants vs Zombies

  • Twitter

It's interesting to see that some apps are on both lists. When this occurs, we must figure out if the app in question is more than likely going to produce a positive or negative outcome. Back in August, we reported that Dropbox topped the lost of most blacklisted and white list apps, according Zenprise's second quarter survey of its customers.
