Barracuda Plans Cloud Data Storage Growth Through SignNow Acquisition

Barracuda Networks is continuing the expansion of its cloud data storage initiatives. This time, the company has acquired mobile signing and document storage platform provider SignNow, which recently grew to more than 1 million users and represents more than 100,000 small businesses and half of the Fortune 500.

It’s an interesting acquisition, as there’s a bit of a niche here. It may very well be a big niche, but it’s far from a traditional cloud storage offering. According to Barracuda, this acquisition brings significant expansion and expertise that the security and storage vendor will use to boost its own cloud data storage growth.

“The SignNow acquisition strengthens our offering in cloud data storage and continues our focus on providing simple, yet powerful and affordable IT solutions,” said BJ Jenkins, CEO of Barracuda Networks, in a prepared statement. “SignNow has experienced phenomenal growth, and we are looking forward to bringing it into our fully integrated suite of cloud and on-premise security and storage solutions.”

With the acquisition complete, Barracuda will fold SignNow’s technology and people into its storage business unit.

Cloud storage seems to be top-of-mind amongst the executives and senior management at Barracuda. Earlier this year, Barracuda partnered with Drobo to bring cloud accessibility and storage offerings to Drobo. And then earlier this month, Barracuda tripled the amount of free cloud storage available to its Copy users to 15GB from 5GB.

Copy is Barracuda’s recently launched online file syncing, sharing and storage service built on Barracuda Cloud. It joined a growing legion of such services that is dominated by the likes of Dropbox and Box. Similar to Dropbox, Barracuda offers additional free cloud storage space to customers that successfully refer others to the cloud storage service.

With SignNow, Barracuda takes on several new features, including:

  • The ability to instantly sign and send documents. According to SignNow, its technology improves document turnaround by up to 90 percent, enabling document signing in less than 30 seconds for customers, partners or employees.

  • Centralize corporate agreement archives, giving organizations control over document signing workflow, with additional insight, auditing and tracking from anywhere.

  • Simplifying document signing and increased cost savings, resulting in an increase in productivity and cost savings, removing the need to email, print, fax or ship important documents.

SignNow is available for iOS and Android mobile devices.
