SAP TechEd BARCELONA — SAP has certified Dell EMC’s VxRail hyperconverged (HC) appliances for SAP HANA production environments.

Dell Technologies made the announcement Thursday at SAP TechEd Barcelona 2018 where the vendor is showcasing its wares and discussing how Dell EMC, VMware and Virtustream can help businesses accelerate their digital transformation with SAP.

The SAP certification process validates VMware vSphere and vSAN software in production environments for both Scale Up and Multi-VM deployment modes deploying the Intel Scalable Xeon Processor Family. As a result of collaboration between VMware and Virtustream, vSphere now supports SAP HANA environments with up to 6TB virtual machines on 4-socket server hardware.

“Customers can now get the operational benefits of a fully integrated stack from leading vendors of hyperconverged infrastructure – Dell EMC and VMware – to support their mission-critical, performance-sensitive SAP HANA environments,” said Sanjay Poonen, chief operating officer, customer operations, at VMware.

“Dell EMC VxRail makes IT transformation with HCI as simple as possible for customers to adopt and grow,” said Gil Shneorson, senior vice president and general manager, Dell EMC VxRail. “As customers increasingly use VxRail for core data-center workloads, this certification makes VxRail, already architected for in-memory database applications, an excellent HCI solution for SAP HANA customers.”

In September, IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Converged Systems Tracker pegged the converged systems market revenue at $3.5 billion for the second quarter of 2018, a nearly 10 percent year-over-year increase. IDC’s converged-systems market view looks at three segments: certified reference systems and integrated infrastructure; integrated platforms; and hyperconverged systems.

Revenue from hyperconverged systems sales grew in the second quarter, up 78 percent year over year, and generated $1.5 billion in sales, representing 41 percent of the total converged systems market, according to IDC.

Dell EMC VxRail is a jointly engineered, turnkey, fully integrated HCI appliance with VMware, powered by vSphere and vSAN, and pre-tested and preconfigured with the latest Dell EMC PowerEdge servers. These appliances simplify a VMware environment for HCI with seamless integration with existing VMware tools, the company said. VxRail also offers life-cycle management and scalability with a cost-effective HCI solution that delivers multiple compute, memory, storage, network and graphics options for multiple use cases and a range of applications and workloads.
