Microsoft Offers $150 Surface Pro 3 Discount in SMB Bundle Promotion

Microsoft (MSFT) is offering a $150 discount to businesses buying a package of its Surface Pro 3 tablet, type cover and docking station through channel partners, as part of a series of moves to establish a stronger commercial presence for the platform.

“To make it faster and more cost-effective for business customers to deploy Surface Pro 3, we’re introducing a limited-time Surface Laptop Replacement Bundle with our reseller partners that provides up to $150 off of a Surface Pro 3, Type Cover and Docking Station when purchased together,” wrote Brian Hall, Surface general manager, in a blog post.

“This is available through our Authorized Resellers in the U.S. starting immediately, and in the majority of markets where Surface is available worldwide in the coming weeks, while supplies last,” he said. “Particularly, we expect small and medium businesses to see tremendous value in this offer.”

The promotion is part of a series of business-focused service and support enhancements the vendor has added to its Surface Pro 3 repertoire, responding, it said, to questions from businesses about its long-term commitment to the platform.

Here’s what else Microsoft is doing to cement Surface Pro 3 interest with businesses:

  • A web page detailing Windows Updates and firmware updates for the Surface Pro 3 along with explanations. Microsoft earlier made all firmware and drivers for the platform available for IT to use to create corporate logos for the tablet.

  • New support package called Microsoft Complete for Business that includes a three-year extended warranty, accidental damage protection, faster exchange service and Surface setup support for customers.

  • Surface Pro 3 has qualified for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program for computers in addition to its earlier Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) credentials.

  • Current Surface Pro 3 Type Covers, Docking Stations and accessories such as the power adapter and Ethernet adapter will be compatible with the next generation of the Surface Pro line.

Hall also said that the Surface Pro 3 will be upgradable when Microsoft releases Windows 10 sometime in 2015.

“Surface Pro 3 is for work,” Hall wrote. “We built it that way.”
