Hosted Managed Services: LabTech and T2 Partner

LabTech Software, which develops remote monitoring and management (RMM) software, is now available in a hosted configuration from T2 Solutions in the United Kingdom and Ireland. This is the first step in a broader SaaS (software as a service) strategy planned by LabTech. Here are the details.

As you may recall, ConnectWise Capital invested in LabTech in February 2010. Since that time, LabTech has shown some momentum as an on-premises solution for MSPs. By early May 2010, LabTech CEO Matt Nachtrab hinted that a two-step SaaS strategy was coming. The first step involved T2 Solutions in the UK. And a longer-term strategy apparently involves LabTech introducing some of its own hosted offerings.

The LabTech-T2 deal was officially announced May 24, 2010. Under terms of the deal, T2 will has licensed 10,000 LabTech agents. The press announcement says T2 is switching from Kaseya (deployed in 2006) to LabTech’s software. Plus, Nachtrab emphasizes that LabTech won’t sell directly to end-customers — a thinly veiled reference to the fact that Kaseya sells direct to larger accounts.

In my opinion, ConnectWise Capital’s investment in LabTech has created so-called coopetition between ConnectWise and Kaseya. Still, ConnectWise plans to attend the 2010 Kaseya Connect User Conference (June 1-3, Las Vegas). And there are indications that Kaseya plans to launch a new ISV partner program at the conference.

I firmly believe Kaseya and ConnectWise will continue to integrate their products for their mutual customers, even as LabTech competes with Kaseya on some fronts. I hope to share more details from next week’s user conference.
