CloudLink Technologies, a cloud security and data encryption management company, has unveiled a new solution that enables organizations to use Microsoft Windows encryption tools to secure their virtual desktops and server virtual machines (VMs).

Organizations now can use CloudLink SecureVM with Microsoft BitLocker drive encryption for Amazon Web Services (AWS) to better manage their encryption keys, according to CloudLink.

SecureVM extends BitLocker to virtual and cloud environments, CloudLink said, and also enables organizations to encrypt their VMs outside of AWS.

CloudLink noted the solution offers:

“SecureVM provides AWS customers with a simple to deploy, simple to manage virtual machine encryption solution that equips them to bring their own security to [the cloud] so they can confidently take advantage of the cloud,” a CloudLink spokesperson told Talkin’ Cloud.

CloudLink CEO Alex Berlin said he believes SecureVM can deliver a recurring revenue stream to managed service providers (MSPs), value-added resellers (VARs) and systems integrators.

“Cloud security is a top priority for many enterprises, and CloudLink’s unique and innovative approach allows customers to bring their own security to AWS while leveraging the company’s existing data security technology and operational expertise,” Berlin said in a prepared statement. “SecureVM also provides MSPs, VARs and systems integrators reselling AWS cloud services with a compelling data security solution that will help fuel cloud adoption and produce incremental revenue opportunities.”

What does Bitlocker encryption mean for SecureVM users?

SecureVM includes security controls that allow organizations to encrypt virtualized desktops or services that are running in the cloud.

CloudLink said the solution’s encryption key policy management functionality, meanwhile, enables BitLocker to automate encryption of boot volumes in the cloud while enabling enterprise administrators to control security policy and encryption keys.

“SecureVM offers customers a simple, pragmatic data security solution that they can use today to protect workloads in AWS and easily extend to secure data in other clouds,” a CloudLink spokesperson added. “[Customers] have a single data security solution that can span their hybrid cloud to centralize security management, lower operational costs and have the flexibility to move to and from their clouds of choice knowing their sensitive data will not be ‘left behind.'”
