Bluelock Datacenters Now Run VMware vCloud Director 1.5
Indianapolis-based Bluelock, a certified VMware partner, says VMware vCloud Director 1.5 is now available to customers of its cloud-based datacenter services. The public cloud upgrade will provide Bluelock clients with an enhanced user interface and added capabilities in its virtual datacenters.
According to the press release, vCloud Director and VMware’s vSphere “pool datacenter resources including compute, storage and networking into virtual datacenters, offered to users on-demand, enabling IT organizations to build private clouds” and move data to and from their private cloud and Bluelock’s vCloud-based datacenters.
“With today’s enterprise IT facing growing pressure to increase business agility while lowering costs,” said Pat O’Day, CTO at Bluelock, in a prepared statement. “vCloud Director continues to better enable our clients to build secure clouds, transforming the way IT procures, delivers and manages infrastructure services.”
VMware vCloud Director 1.5 upgrades now available to Bluelock clients:
- Self-service virtual private network (VPN). Users will now be able to configure and manage their VPN configurations from within the vCloud Director General User Interface (GUI).
- Automatic VPN (vCloud Director to vCloud Director). Networks can be securely and automatically linked between two Virtual Datacenters.
- Full source-based firewall rules. Users can specify source IP addresses and ports when creating firewall policies.
- vCloud API 1.5. The vCloud Director API has been enhanced to support more features and better integration.
- vApp Custom Attributes. A VMware vSphere vApp can now be assigned custom attributes which can help with better automation and customization of deployments.
- Network card control. Some virtual appliances require specific network adapters. vCloud Director 1.5 allows full control of the virtual network interface cards (NICs) that are assigned to a virtual machine (VM).
VMware has been banging the drum for its cloud partner push, promoting such partners as Champion Solutions Group (a Talkin’ Cloud 50 company in 2011). VMware has also partnered closely with Ingram Micro, offering service provider licensing to Ingram’s channel partners.
