Polycom Names UTStarcom VP Ari Bose to CIO Slot

Ari roseThe VAR Guy is no stranger to unified communications, so it piqued his interested when Polycom appointed Ari Bose to CIO. Polycom is putting its faith in Bose, a former telecom executive, to further its global and strategic transformation beyond its current boundaries. Here are the details …

Bose’s role at Polycom is a major one, and not just because he’s CIO. In his position, he oversees Polycom’s current UC strategy and product development as well as development of future innovations — something Polycom Chief Strategy and Technology Officer Joe Burton said would be a priority for the company as it seeks to become a household name.

In bringing Bose on to fill such a major role, Polycom is setting the stage for its future direction, The VAR Guy believes. Bose joins Polycom from UTStarcom, an IP-based networking and telecommunication company where he served as senior VP. Before UTStarcom, he was CIO and VP at 3Com and also held management positions at Nortel and Claris, so he has the necessary networking background to push Polycom into newer environments such as the cloud.

Unified communications continues to be one of those technologies that quietly yet forcefully continues to gain a foothold in the enterprise. Bose, no doubt, will be a guiding force in ensuring Polycom stands on solid ground. The VAR Guy also believes Bose will be a complementary addition to Polycom’s all-star executive lineup, which — in addition to former Cisco VP Burton — includes president and CEO (and friend of the channel) Andrew Miller and Sudhakar Ramakrishna, chief development officer and former 3Com exec.
