Dot Hill Unveils New Unified Virtual Storage Portfolio

Dot Hill, known for their “Assured” suite of storage solutions, is expanding its product line  to tackle growing virtualization storage needs. It’s called Dot hill AssuredUVS solutions, available both in Datacenter and Standard versions. The goal is to bring storage virtualization to the SMB and SME markets. Here’s the plan…

Consolidation and cost concerns are part of the challenges that Dot Hill is looking to attack, and AssuredUVS is the way Dot Hill plans to do it. UVS (unified virtual storage) solutions are designed to bring software, storage, server and management all into one single console, that is supported by multi-vendor “storage assets.” After consolidation, efficiency and simplicity should go up, and consequently, so should IT and business flexibility, Dot Hill claims.

Dot Hill has built upon the “Assured architecture” to provide management between SAN and NAS, along with other various storage protocols and mixed storage environments. Fiber Channel or iSCSI block storage is also easily managed, along with CIFS or NFS, the company asserts.

AssuredUVS was once iSN, which was acquired technology from Cloverleaf Communications. AssuredUVS standard comes with 50TB and is positioned for mid-sized businesses. It scales to 250TB. AssuredUVS Datacenter comes with a “scale-out” model for higher capacity and performance, and supports a limit of 6PB (petabytes, or over 6,000 GB), the company says.

AssuredUVS boasts broad support of operating system and hypervisor environments, which include Apple, VMware, Linux, HP-UX, along with storage platform support from the same vendors. By December 2010, selected Dot Hill authorized resellers will introduce the AssuredUVS Standard model (US$63,960) with dual controllers for high availability.
