Franklin Wireless Releases Mobile Broadband USB Modem

Franklin Wireless, a maker of wireless broadband communications devices that sells through major distributors, has released its CDU-550 Mobile Broadband USB modem with support for the Windows Mobile and Linux operating systems. The USB mobile broadband modem lets wireless subscribers using tablet PCs, Mac laptops or desktops without PCMCIA card slots connect to the Internet wirelessly, without having to use hotspots. The company said it is the first dongle EV-DO USB mobile broadband modem in the United States.

NetOp Launches Remote Control Software

NetOp Tech Inc., a subsidiary of Danish IT company Danware A/S, has launched NetOp Mobile remote control software in the United States, for use by companies with field workforces. The software provides enterprise-level remote control for mobile devices; applications include corporate helpdesk support, remote administration and maintenance.

NetOp Mobile allows corporate IT and helpdesk personnel to remotely control and support the mobile devices used by workers in the field. It securely transfers files, updates software and accommodates technical support. Field workers can request help with a single button.

The new remote control software works with mobile devices using Windows CE 2003 and Windows Mobile 5.0 and can be remotely controlled from platforms using NetOp Remote Control Guest, including Windows, Linux, Solaris, OS/2 and ActiveX.

In2M Corp. is distributing its personal budgeting system, Mvelopes Personal, accessed on Web-enabled mobile phones, through its channel partners. Mvelopes Personal gives users real-time access to their spending information at the mall, the grocery store or anywhere they make purchases. The service is free to Mvelopes Personal members.

The platform supports phones with WAP 2.0 or native Internet browsing capabilities. In2M recommends a minimum screen size of 176 x 220 pixels or greater to avoid formatting issues. Mvelopes members use the same username and password to access Mvelopes on their mobile phones as they would on their computer. Wireless Transport Layer Security (WTLS) protocol encrypts information during transmission.

Cardo Systems Introduces scala-600 Bluetooth Headset

Cardo Systems Inc., a manufacturer of Bluetooth wireless devices, has introduced the scala-600, touted as an extremely small Bluetooth headset (weighing less than half an ounce) that provides up to nine hours of talk time.

The scala-600 includes voice dial and redial features, a noise-reduction microphone, speaker booster and echo-canceling technology.

The headset works with all Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones and Cardos BTA II, which converts standard cellular phones into headset-compatible Bluetooth handsets. The device supports up to eight pairings and has muting capabilities. For left ear use, the volume wheel reverses and the blue LED light can be turned off while in use.
