The Lazy Volunteer Reprises Toss for Tots

By Cara Sievers

Last fall, philanthropic organization The Lazy Volunteer, chaired by XO Communications partner channel manager Keith Tomlin, held its first annual Toss for Tots Baggo tournament raising more than $20,000 for Children’s Memorial Hospital’s Cancer Research Center. More than 100 people, including representatives from 20 carriers, several agents and other Chicago-area professionals, attended the event.

The planning crew is at it again and has officially announced its 2nd Annual Toss for Tots Baggo Tournament to benefit the pediatric cancer research center. The Baggo tournament (a game similar to cornhole, a beanbag-toss game) is set for Thursday, Oct. 8, at Joe’s Sports Bar at 940 W. Weed St. in Chicago. The doors open at 6 p.m., and the tournament starts at 7 p.m.

“We were so pleased with the support for last year’s inaugural event,” said Tomlin. “A huge crowd from the telecommunications industry showed up to participate and support our worthy cause. We are very much looking forward to an even bigger and better event this year.”

According to The Lazy Volunteer board member Ian Kieninger, general manager of CDW, the goal for the 2009 event is to exceed $35,000 in funds raised. The organization currently is offering an early bird registration opportunity through Aug. 31. Registration fees, which include an event T-shirt, are as follows:

  • Individual $65 ($75 after Aug. 31)

  • Team: $130 ($150 after Aug. 31)

  • Supporter: $45 ($50 after Aug. 31)
