Multi-Tech Remote Office Helps Solve 911 Problems

Multi-Tech Systems Inc. has put together a new architecture to enable remote offices to tap into the VoIP systems at their corporate headquarters affordably and to get 911 service through those IP-based connections.

The company is featuring the solution at the Internet Telephony Conference & Expo this week in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

By combining one of the companys VoIP servers and a cellular gateway, a remote office can use IP phones for normal business communications and the cellular phone network for emergency calls.

This architecture which Multi-Tech says can be set up for less than $1,500 excluding the cellular service requires a two-port Multi-Tech Systems MultiVOIP SIP Server to be set up on the network at the remote office as a trunk to the IP PBX. A Multi-Tech Systems CallFinder GSM or CDMA cellular gateway, meanwhile, is connected to the MultiVOIP server and to a cellular service provider. If the provider uses GSM technology, the gateway can be equipped with a pre-paid SIM card so there are no recurring costs.

Normal business communications are through the IP phones and, if the remote office IP phones make emergency calls, the IP PBX routes the calls back to the remote office via the MultiVOIP and CallFinder.

Another benefit to this combination is that one of the MultiVOIP ports can be used for a fax machine, adds Chip Harleman, vice president of sales and marketing for Multi-Tech Systems. Being equipped with T.38 standard real-time fax relay capability, the MultiVOIP will enable exchanging fax messages with other locations on the network. Just attach a standard fax machine to an open port and its operational. The solution of using a MultiVOIP and CallFinder will not only protect your remote office employees emergency communications, but will add productivity as well.

MultiVOIP SIP Voice and Fax over IP Server two-port models are list-priced at $999 (model MVP210-SS), $899 (model MVP210) and $599 (model MVPFX2-2). CallFinder cellular gateways are list-priced at $499 (GSM model CF100FX2-G) and $599 (CDMA model CF100F2-C).
