Lenovo Launches ThinkStation P Series

Lenovo launched its ThinkStation P Series as the company looks to redefine the capabilities of the average desktop workstation. With the P Series, the company is targeting the professional crowd by offering several models aimed at driving productivity for users across a number of different verticals.

The ThinkStation P900, P700 and P500 models complement the entry-level ThinkStation P300, which was released in May. Lenovo revealed the new desktops during this week’s SIGGRAPH 2014 event in Vancouver. The lineup is expected to be available later this fall.

“After a period of intensive research, development and testing, we’re excited to introduce our next generation workstations to the market, as we truly believe this is the best designed workstation ever,” said Victor Rios, vice president and general manager, Workstation at Lenovo, in a statement. “We built on the advancements delivered in our 30 Series workstations and engineered the P Series with new levels of innovation based on extensive customer feedback. The result for users is optimum performance, outstanding reliability and unparalleled usability that is unlike anything they have experienced.”

The P Series will sport several features to help make upgrading and troubleshooting easier for business users, according to Lenovo. Each model is designed to be modular, so users can access components such as the motherboard without having to disassemble the main tower. Lenovo is also including red touch points to help guide users as they make component changes, with an additional diagnostic port for Android-based tablets or smartphones to allow users to transfer diagnostic information to the ThinkStation diagnostics web page.

To combat overheating from heavy workloads on its new devices, Lenovo is including several cooling components into the P Series, including a Tri Channel Cooling Architecture and a multi-channel air baffle to draw in maximum airflow, according to the company. Memory, storage and I/O slot capacities are expandable and users can choose from several customizable configurations including a FLEX Bay, FLEX Module, FLEX Tray and FLEX Connector. The P Series also will include an Intel Xeon processor and NVIDIA Quadro graphics card for processing and graphical capabilities.

“We want our customers to know that we listened to their demands for a higher-performing, more reliable and more usable workstation, and our ThinkStation P Series represents our response to those demands,” said Rob Herman, director, Worldwide Workstation Product and Vertical Marketing at Lenovo. “We’re excited to bring this technology to customers and, more importantly, to see how they’ll use the ThinkStation P Series workstations to power new innovations in their respective industries.”
