Dell is the latest company to announce its next-generation servers this week with the release of its 13th generation PowerEdge portfolio. The enterprise server lineup promises to give customers both speed and increased storage capacity as an incentive to upgrade their current systems.

“The pace of technology development and disruption is undoubtedly increasing, and many IT organizations are trying to find the right balance of rolling out technology in new and exciting ways without adding more complexity to their environments,” said Forrest Norrod, vice president and general manager of Dell Server Solutions, in a statement.

“By focusing on three underlying principles in our new PowerEdge server portfolio—accelerating application performance, empowering workloads in any environment and simplification of systems management—customers can bridge between traditional and new IT models so they are always prepared to incorporate new innovations and stand up and optimize new applications within their data centers,” he said.

Dell designed its PowerEdge portfolio to adhere to the features and specializations demanded by their customers, according to the company. Each of the new products was designed with several principles in mind, including boosted application performance and cost concern, all while working to improve the overall functionality of the servers. The latest generation of servers incorporates Intel’s latest 22nm Xeon server processors and technology such as flash storage and software-defined storage through hybrid storage capabilities, as well as “zero touch” automated deployment and NFC integration for inventory management.

“One of the key components is getting feedback from our customers as well as channel partners to influence our design and of course that has to start way back at the beginning of a design cycle,” said Brian Payne, a senior product planning manager for Dell PowerEdge, in an interview with The VAR Guy.

Similar to other next-gen storage solutions to hit shelves this month, Dell’s lineup runs the gamut from the PowerEdge R730xd, R730 and R630 rack servers to the M630 blade server and T630 tower server, providing options for all types of enterprise users. All of the new products feature Intel Xenon technology and are expected to give users increased operational efficiency and flexibility at any scale for applications and environments, according to Dell. Additionally, the Dell Storage MD1400 and MD1420 direct storage offerings aim to give customers storage expansion options and improve performance compared to the previous generation’s data security drives.

The 13th generation PowerEdge servers are available now through the channel. Previous generation customers don’t need to worry about immediately upgrading their servers either, as Dell promised that all of its new solutions are backwards-compatible with its 12th generation servers.
