Reports: Kasperky Lab Co-Founder’s Son Feared Kidnapped

The 20-year-old son of Kasperky Lab co-founder Eugene Kaspersky has been kidnapped in Moscow and is being held for ransom, according to Russia media reports.

According to a story in Lifenews, Ivan Kaspersky was allegedly abducted from the northwest part of Moscow April 19 while on his way to work. The story said kidnappers are demanding a €3 million ransom, and shortly after receiving a call from the kidnappers, Eugene Kaspersky boarded a plane to Moscow from London.

Kaspersky Lab released a statement that it has no knowledge of the kidnapping. “Kaspersky Lab does not possess any information on that matter. We’ll let you know if that changes,” the statement read.

However, in an earlier article on The Tech Herald, Kaspersky Lab denied the kidnapping report and issued the following statement to Russian news agency RIA Novosti:

“Kaspersky Lab calls on the media to stop spreading rumors and speculation about the events related to the family members of Yevgeny Kaspersky. Yevgeny Kaspersky is working normally, but he commented that the information being circulated is harmful for the company.”

According to The Tech Herald, local law enforcement authorities, the Secret Service and the Criminal Investigation Department are believed to be investigating the alleged kidnapping.
