Monitoring and managing hybrid IT environments – both physical and virtual, both on-premise and in the cloud – has become top of mind for MSPs and other IT pros recently as they look for a single tool to simplify monitoring the growing complexity of their environments. Quest Software is the most recent company to come out with a new tool to do that for application performance management with its Foglight for Windows Azure Applications. Here are the details.

Foglight for Windows Azure Applications is a software-as-a-service (SAAS) offering that lets MSPs and enterprises adopt a hybrid application performance monitoring strategy combining cloud-based application performance monitoring technology with current on-premise monitoring tools, according to Quest.

A Quest spokeswoman told MSPmentor that the go-to-market strategy for this technology was designed to appeal to MSPs. It’s being offered on a subscription basis rather than requiring the purchase of a traditional perpetual license. There’s no big up-front cost, and MSPs can bill their customers directly.

Quest said that Foglight also offers the ability to group clients together for various regions or in certain classes, letting them be managed as a group.

The solution is available immediately as a beta and is the newest addition to Quest’s Foglight APM portfolio enabling IT administrators to monitor performance and understand what end users are experiencing with Windows Azure-based applications.

Dell announced in early July that it would acquire Quest Software.
