LabTech Software sometime this month will unveil version 2012.1 — a service pack upgrade that will include a range of RMM (remote monitoring and management) enhancements. Chief among them: New mobile device management (MDM) capabilities for Apple iOS and Google Android tablets and smartphones. Tony Thomas, director of product management, offered a preview of those enhancements during the IT Nation 2012 conference. Here's a FastChat Video describing where LabTech has been — and where the company is going — in the MDM market.

LabTech's maiden voyage in the MDM market started in April 2012, when the company rolled out its first Apple iOS and Android management solutions. Since that time, LabTech has been further studying the market and preparing to roll out various enhancements — including wireless data plan threshold management and geolocation tracking.

LabTech's Thomas explains more in this MSPmentor FastChat Video:

It sounds like the MDM enhancements will arrive with LabTech Software 2012.1, which reportedly will debut sometime this month. No doubt, the MDM market is crowded with solutions — including standalone options; OEM integrations; and home-grown offerings from RMM software companies. MSPmentor believes the standalone options will eventually fade from the market, essentially blending into corporate systems management or RMM solutions.

In the LabTech market, we've heard from a few MSPs that are seeking enhancements around Apple iOS management. Thomas dropped hints about those enhancements in the FastChat video, and we'll be watching to see how the strategy plays out with 2012.1.
