In any internet-of-things (IoT) setting, integration and connectivity with edge devices are paramount to success. To this end, Dell Boomi, a Dell business unit and provider of cloud integration software, on Tuesday announced enhancements to its platform — namely, IoT connectivity, integration accelerators and features that help developers quickly create low-code workflow applications.

“We’re delivering new capabilities to help customers address the last mile of IoT – integration of device data – so they can easily achieve the business outcomes they’re seeing from their strategic IoT investments,” said Steve Wood, chief product officer at Dell Boomi.

A typical IoT environment has hundreds – perhaps thousands – of edge devices throwing off a lot of data. In order to harness this data, multiple edge gateways perform application-integration functions. Boomi’s management tools let developers create, test, update, delete and audit application-integration processes throughout this environment.

A run-time engine called Boomi Atom lets IoT data flow to a company’s applications, whether in the cloud or on premises. Boomi Atom supports multiple IoT connectivity protocols and open standards, such as AMQP, MQTT and REST. It allows companies to run integrations and host and manage web services.

Then there’s Boomi Flow, a set of tools on the platform that help companies create low-code applications and automate workflow. Organizations can use Boomi Flow to create business processes that respond to certain alerts that call for human intervention, Dell Boomi says. New features to Boomi Flow include extended file management and database support.

With enhanced developer tools, Dell Boomi wants companies to speed up development. There are new and enhanced connectors for Amazon Web Services, Salesforce, Google, Hadoop, Box, Dynamics 365 for CEM, among others. Dell Boomi partners can also build custom connectors.

Other new features include: a redesigned deployment workflow to support user-defined versioning, an authentication broker, support for Swagger 2.0 and WSDL, and a community program for users to share best practices.

By having IoT edge devices, data and applications work in concert, Dell Boomi promises to help companies get to the heart of IoT – that is, business outcomes – quickly and reliably.
