Nokia’s best-selling Windows phone around the world isn’t the Lumia 920, 925 or any version of its high-end flagship device. It’s the budget Lumia 520, which is ready to make its AT&T debut.

The 520 is seeing major uptake in emerging markets with large populations such as India, where the price tag for a budget smartphone is much more manageable than that of a super device. AT&T said on Monday that the 520 will become part of its prepaid GoPhone portfolio beginning on Friday. The 4G-capable device the first Windows phone available via GoPhone will sell for just $100.

The device has 512 MB of RAM; 8GB of internal storage; a 5MP camera; a four-inch display; and a 1GHz, dual-core processor.

We are excited to launch the first 4G Windows Phone 8 smartphone in our GoPhone portfolio,” said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, devices. "A diverse device ecosystem benefits everyone, and the addition of an affordable Windows device gives our customers yet another choice that fits their needs.”

A variation of the 520, the 521, launched with T-Mobile earlier this year.
